Meeting Kristy
Well, I recently found someone from my mom’s side of the family who isn’t dead. She’s actually kinda interesting… And maybe she’ll be key to getting Jason to tell me more about my powers… I’ll update when Kristy updates.
1/23/09- Chapter numbers have been updated to match Kristy’s.

Chapter 1
Just another night, out on the streets looking for something to eat. Jason ground me to my room… again. He’s all mad ‘cause I punched Shawn. He’s always asking for it and Jason knows it! He just likes seeing me in trouble. When aren’t I in trouble? But anyway, I didn’t get to eat any dinner and I’m starving. My last meal was half a tuna sandwich and chips for lunch. Tunas so gross and Jason knows I hate it. I think that’s why he gave it to me… Or maybe he gave me Tyler’s by mistake…
I snuck into Dunkin’ Doughnuts and grabbed a blueberry muffin while the clerk wasn’t looking. I’m so fast, all the costumers saw was a blur of orange fur. Dumb humans, always in the way. I prefer the animal downtown by Bridgeport. But here I am, in Syracuse, New York, stealing muffins from Dunkin’ Doughnuts. What a great way to spend my Friday night. I should be at home, playing baseball with the rest of the Orphanage. I hate being grounded.
I quickly ate my muffin and walked passed a park. A small branch, about a foot long and two inches in diameter was on the sidewalk. Jason still had my lighter knife, so an extra wooden spear could come in handy. I picked it up and used my claws to sharpen it. I aimlessly walked down an ally and heard a noise. Something had been digging thought the trashcans and was now heading my way.
I saw a tiny kitten with brown fur stare right at me with terrified green eyes. I know I’m small, but this girl was as big as a newborn kit! She dashed off and I quickly fallowed her. Dang, this kid was fast! I’m the fasted cat I know, and no one can out run me… well, besides Jason. But he has super speed so that’s cheating. Then again, I probably have mild super speed so… Anyway, I fallowed her in a loop, halfway back to the park. When I finally caught up to her, she looked even more scarred than before. I am pretty scary.
“Yeesh! For such a tiny kitten, you sure run fast!”
“No, I don’t” She said in a quiet voice.
“Oh, yeah?” I said, a bit more challenging than I should have, “Then how did you outrun me? I don’t have super speed, but I’m still pretty fast.”
“I don’t know.” She squeaked. Poor kid, I must have scared her. Great. “I sort of…just…did. I don’t know how.”
Hmmm… Super speed. Maybe she’s a hero. “What’s your name, and where do you live?” I asked.
“I-I’m Kristy. And I don’t really live anywhere. I’m kind of…stray…homeless?”
“Homeless? What about your mom? And your dad?” I didn’t show it, but asking the question stabbed me inside a little.
“They’re-“ The kitten stopped. Clearly, her parent’s were where mine are. “They’re dead, they’re both dead.”
I fought back tears. No one could ever know how I felt about my parents. I shouldn’t know how they died. But Jason knew, so I knew.
“Yeah, mine too.” I tried to cover my sorrow with friendliness, “My name’s Jamie, by the way. Jamie Jonas.”
I waited for her to be impressed. Everyone was crazy about the Jonas Brothers, so that makes me a star.
But all she said was, “Hi.”
Clearly, homeless people don’t know about the real world. But, I don’t really know about homeless people. This could be something interesting to learn. I thought of the right way to put my question.
“If you’re homeless, how do you survive?” That was a good one to start with.
“I sort of… eat out of trash cans.”
I made a face. GROSS!! And I thought tuna fish was bad. Hmmm… She looks hungry, and we’ve got extra food. Maybe I could do something good for once. But Jason couldn’t know…
“I’ll tell you what- you come with me, as long as you’re real, real quiet. Okay?”
Kristy nodded and fallowed me as I head to the nearest parking lot.
Chapter 2
We walked into the parking lot with at least 20 different cars to choose from. Perfect. But Kristy screamed and jumped like 2 feet in the air. Then she ran behind a tree. Normally I would have laughed my head off, but she almost blew our cover. No one heard. She must be crazy.
“What are you scared of?” I asked. And why are you so jumpy? You look like a raving lunatic from the psych ward, yeesh. Either that or a schizophrenic. A car is a car, and cars don’t hurt you, they’re awesome!
“Hey!” Kristy shouted. I looked around but there was no one there. Was she yelling at me? “I’m not skitso-furnic, or whatever you said!”
I just looked at her. I didn’t say that out loud… Crap, maybe I did. Oh, great I gotta keep my big mouth shut.
She smirked. Wait, she smirked? At me? No one smirks at me but Amy and Jason. And even they don’t get away with it. But I had to play nice. I growled and she flinched. Ah, sweet victory.
But how did she know what I was thinking. I know I didn’t say that out loud… Hmmmm…. Could it be a power? Maybe, just maybe… Well, Kristy, if you can hear what I’m…. ‘saying’ now, acknowledge it.
She looked at me like I was crazy. This wasn’t going to work.
“Of course I can,” she scoffed, “why wouldn’t I be able to hear you? You’re not exactly whispering.”
Perfect, now there could be someone with real powers that would want to practice with me.
“Come on, they’re not going to hurt you. They’re” What’s the right word? Well, if she thinks the cars are alive… “-Hibernating. If we get in one, I can make it bring us somewhere fast. We’ve got to get to my house in Bridgeport. And we can’t exactly walk there…”
She fallowed me as I looked around… Toyota… Ford… Porsche… Whoa, a Porsche? No, I couldn’t steal that one; the cops would be all over me. And Jason would be pissed. Ah, a Subaru, and in black too. I searched for my backup pocketknife and slid open the door. I hot-wired the car in 10 seconds flat. Then with a rock on the gas petal we set out. As I picked up speed, Kristy was sent flying back into the seat. Her claws made light scratches. There goes the re-sell value. She curled up in a ball and closed her eyes in fear. I chuckled quietly. Jason probably did the same thing the first time I rode shotgun… Oh wait, I remember that… God, I’m more like him every day.
I parked the car on the street. Jason will kill me, but that’s expected. Kristy got out of the car looking very dizzy. I lead her into the house. All the lights were out. Jason wasn’t home; out saving the world, even if he won’t admit it. We walk across the living room as quietly as the two clumsiest kittens in the world could. At least I’m not the only one. We took the stairs down, because the chute would be too loud and Kristy would freak out, and she might be afraid of the elevator too. I had a lot of work to do. We walked passed the gamma ray and into a little corner near the closet. I grabbed some blankets and laid them down for Kristy.
“You’ll have to stay down here, very quietly,” I said, “because my brother Jason can’t know about you. If he did, we’d both get in serious trouble.” Good God, it was like talking to Tyler. “I’ll bring you food and toys and stuff, and when I can, I’ll come play with you. I’ve got to make sure you have powers, and then get you some training for them. Okay?”
She looked a little confused, but meekly said, “Okay.”
I smiled at started to walk towards the stairs. I tripped over my tail and muttered a few swear as I got off the cold floor. I ran back upstairs and into my room.
“Jamie.” Amy was up. “Where the hell did you go?”
“Just to Syracuse.”
“How did you- never mind.” Amy knew I had my ways of getting out. “Jason went toward the desert tonight.”
“Good, you wrote it down right?” She nodded, “Okay. Don’t freak, but…ummm… There’s a cute brown kitten in the lab.”
“WHAT?!?!?” Amy shrieked, almost waking Tyler up.
“SHHHHHHH.” I hissed back, “I think she might have powers.”
“I left the gamma ray out!” She hissed back, “What if she touches it. I’m running some of Tyler’s DNA!”
“She won’t.” I whispered back, “She’s too scared. But we need to talk to her tomorrow. Can you put the Tyler research on hold?”
Amy sighed, “Fine. But you know that I’ll have to start all over again, with his test.” She seemed annoyed.
“I know, and I’m really sorry. But her powers are better! I think she started to read my mine! And she outran me.”
“Jamie.” Oops, I woke Tyler. “Stop taking about that tiny brown fur ball you brought home and got to sleep.”
We were dead quiet until we heard snoring again.
“I hate it when he does that. “ I mumbled.
“Night Jamie.” Amy curled up under the blanket.
“Night Amy.” I drifted off to sleep, where I watched Jason fight a masked man over in the eastern deserts. He got shot in the arm… again. My tears stained my pillow as I cried for my hero of a brother.
Chapter 3
The next morning, Tyler was gone when I woke up. The sun was hidden behind a few gray clouds, and Amy was writing something down in our Jason file.
“Morning Jamie,” She said looking up, “your pillow’s wet.”
“Is not!” I quickly flipped the pillow over to hide the evidence.
“If you dreamed about Jason, you have to tell me.” Of course, she just has to be right all the time. “What happened?”
“He-he got shot in the arm again.” I winced as the image re-played in my mind. Being able to read Jason’s thoughts was great, but when I thought about something, it always played in perfect detail. Pure mental torture.
“Well that would explain the trip to Joe’s.” There is no one I could think was crazier than Dr. Joe. “The same spot?”
“Yeah. All the stitches popped out at the same time. Blood stained his gray fur…” Tears were forming in my eyes, but I shook my head, stopping my tears. “He’s fine now thought, right?”
“Yeah,” Amy looked at her watched and grabbed her lab coat. “It’s almost eleven. We better meet this brown fur ball of a friend you smuggled home.”
“I didn’t smuggle… Well, yeah I did, but still!”
We walked down the stairs, as I tripped on the second to last one, and back up the stairs on the other side of the house. Jason was out cold from the fight last night, so we were in the clear. We took the wooden stairs down to the lab.
“Why are we taken the stairs?” I whispered, not wanting to wake Kristy, “The elevator is so much cooler.”
“Kristy’s up, so stop blabbering about the elevator I built, and introduce me.”
“Hey Kristy! This is Amy,” I explained to Kristy as I walked past the Gamma Ray. Amy sighed and stopped scanning Tyler’s DNA. “She’s going to do some test to figure out exactly what your powers are and their limits.” Wow, I sounded like a geek saying that.
“Nice to meet you, Kristy.” Amy said. She looked at Kristy with a smile.
Kristy didn’t say anything at first. “Um, chicken?” She sounded confused. I knew Amy would mess with her! Why did I pull that trick?
I laughed a little, but Amy glared at me to stop. “Jamie, other than this mind reading thing, did you notice anything else unusual about her?”
“Well, she did outrun me,” I thought back to last night, “and not many people can do that… Well besides Jason. You wanna test her for super speed or something?”
Amy moved her finger in the air, like she was calculating something mentally. What a math freak. “No, none of the powers can be repeated exactly. But we can test it… Jamie, chase Kristy around the room. Try to make her scared of you, I know you can do that.” I growled playfully. Stupid best friend… “But don’t attack or anything stupid like that. We’re going to try and set off her powers.”
“All right fine.” I ignored the comment about me doing something stupid. That seems to happen a lot… “That okay Kristy?” We’ll I hope she was okay with it. ‘Cause I need some speed practice whether she wants me to chase her or not. My eyes flashed red and Kristy flinched away. This should be interesting.
“Y-yeah, totally okay, completely perfect.” What a bad liar, not even trying. Well, my prey is ready, now time for the hunt.
Amy smiled at Kristy and quickly glared at me. “Okay, now… go.”
My eyes jumped to red and Kristy jumped into the air and ran. Normally, I need to be angry to have my power, but I’ve been practice behind Jason’s back. He would kill me if he saw this. The brown kid ran fast, but now I was faster. I circled around her again and again, never getting tired. I ran over 200 miles at boot camp without stopping, so I could handle a tiny kit.
She finally stopped running and hung her head in shame. I feel kinda bad; I know I hate losing. But normally I just get mad and do even better… Amy looked at Kristy with thought, plotting the next experiment.
“Let’s try something different this time…” Amy came over to me, and whispered so Kristy couldn’t hear. “Run slower this time. But when you get to her, jump on her. But don’t kill her, or anything that I wouldn’t want you to do.” Slower? No way Amy. This time, I’m gonna run her down. I grinned wickedly and my eyes flicked until they locked on red. I really shouldn’t be using my powers too much…
I ran twice as fast as I did the first time, and I think she was twice as scared. But she still wasn’t fast enough. Like a wolf attacking a deer, I jumped up to pounce on her. My timing was right, so she’d be under my paws in a few seconds. But suddenly, when I should feel Kristy’s fur in my jaws, I felt to rubber balls from Jason’s room when he plays catch with Tyler.
I growled as I tried to pull them off my shark-sharp teeth. Oh God, this is just like that time when I got mad at Jason in my room. I dug my claws into the floor and ripped out two pieces. Jason laughed so hard as my hands were trapped from my own fault.
Amy was interesting in the little ball of trouble, not even thinking of helping me. “How did you do that?” It’s like you made all living things in the time stream around you slow to an almost complete stop… that’s very interesting. Coupled with you thought hearing, you could be very useful.” My sister was the biggest geek on the planet.
I finally got the rubber death traps out of my mouth and threw them into the wall. I hissed at Kristy with utter furry. No kit was going to embarrass me in my house!
But she didn’t look scared, like I would have preferred her two. “Sorry.” She sounded smug. She better not say- “but it was kinda funny.”
OH!!! IT WAS NOT!!! My eyes flicked red with rage, but I calmed down. She was my friend and I wasn’t going to slice her face off. Not unless she pushed it farther, like Jason would. I mean, that really wasn’t that funny. Not for me, anyway. No. Not at all… Well, maybe from her view…If we did this to Jason… My eyes when back to green.
“I guess so.” I admitted, while another part of me want to stuff those rubber balls down her skinny little throat. “You’re sense of humor ain’t half bad… Welcome to the club.” I grinned. But I could almost hear Jason say “Club of freaks.” Yes, that would be a very Jason thing to say.
“You’re powers will be great against Jason. With my ideas and your skills, we could do anything.” I winked at her, I must sound so awesome. She winked back.
“Jamieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!” Tyler. Oh joy. “You guys are so loud! I was playing my awesome guitar and I can hear you growling all the way upstairs.” I wasn’t that loud. He was just cheating, mimicking Jason. He walked over to Kristy. “Oh, you’re Kristy, right? That little homeless kitten Jamie smuggled in last night?” He had on that dorky smile again.
“I didn’t smuggle anyone.” I mumbled.
Kristy looking at him like she was sizing him up. Well, my super-dork brother is a bit taller than me, and he looked like a mountain next to the anthill Kristy. But she didn’t seem to care. I think she was trying to be cool, or somewhat like me. I guess that makes me a role model. Wait ‘til Jason hears that.
“Yeah, I am.” She said proudly, “What’s it to you?
I almost laughed when she said that. But I did laugh when I saw Tyler’s face. “Oh, that’s great! We’ve got another Jamie. One’s bad enough. Would it kill you to teach your friends some manners Jamie? Oh wait, you don’t have any, either.”
While this may be true, Tyler wasn’t going to get away saying it. I just smiled at him, with my eyes flickering red. He knew that was a warning ran off, yelping like the sissy he is. Now the world is back in order.
I hate it when he mimics Jason. One Jason is bad enough, especially with him being in my head all the time. Then Tyler tries to act all big and cool. Like the time when the other half of him got out of the mirror. That time when I tried to be good. That was a nightmare I’ll never forget. But I pushed these thoughts aside and got back to Kristy.
“That’s Tyler.” I said smirking at my easy victory over him. “He’s my brother, but a total sissy. He’s not good for much, except as target practice.”
Kristy snickered in agreement with me. I joined her. But my stomach growled. What I wouldn’t do right now for a large pizza…
“Come on, Jason’s not… here, so we should be able to sneak some local food. Wanna come?” When he’s resting after a fight, he’s not here until two in the afternoon.
“Sure!” Kristy said eagerly. I don’t think she’s ever had a friend before. Well, besides my family and TJ, neither have I…
“Amy, are ya coming?”
“No thanks. I don’t have to steal food, I already get meal, ‘cause I’m not grounded.” I can’t name a single person who wouldn’t mock me about that.
I just stuck my tongue out at her. Stealing was more fun! “Okay then, be that way. And while you’re sitting on your lazy butt being a total kiss-up, you mind finding a way for me to keep Kristy out of my head?” I hit a few higher octaves with the last few words. “I already have Jason for that.” I said so fast only Amy could hear.
She smiled, “I’ll get right on that- when I’m finished with breakfast.” She started looking around for chemicals to use. “Now I’ll have something to do.” She said too quietly for Kristy.
“Good.” I said, at least one person wouldn’t hear me. “I’ll help you with it later.” I walked up the stairs, with Kristy on my heels. I wish I could use the elevator, but Ms. I’ve-never-seen-a-car-before would totally freak. If I could just jump up the chute like Jason can… that would be so cool…
Chapter 4
We reached the top of the stairs and I unlocked the padlock on the foot think titanium door. Speak of the devil, and the devil shall appear. Standing on the other was Jason. A very very very mad Jason. I’m dead.
“JAMIE!!!” He screamed at me in rage. I saw his muscles flex, as he was about to pound me into the ground. “YOU SNUCK OUT AGAIN!!!!!! WHY ARE YOU SO FUCKING STUPID??? YOU KNOW THAT-“ He stopped at looked a Kristy. Oh shit. “And what is that?”
I fidgeted a little, looking as innocent as I could. I think that just made him angrier. “Well, that’s Kristy, and she’s sort of…well…” I paused. Only one way out… “RUN!!!!!”
I ran as fast as my short legs could carry me out of the house. Kristy was fallowing me with decent speed. Jason ran out, fallowing us at human speed. I turned as I saw more people around the area.
“Catch me if you can, Jason.” He wouldn’t dare use his super speed in front of everyone.
I ran out towards the road and past last night’s Subaru. I looked back to see Jason as he stopped in front of it. I looked at it in horror. Like the same kind of face when he crashes his convertible.
“JAMIE!!!!!!!” He screamed, loud enough for the whole state of New York to hear.
Kristy was falling behind and Jason pasted her. I was in the woods now, and Jason was slowly gaining speed. I didn’t have much time. I didn’t think much about what I was doing; for fear that Jason would know my escape plan. But I could hear what he was thinking. Well, not hear. His thoughts were moving to fast, but I could feel the emotions. Annoyed. Anger. Worry, that one’s a shocker. And anger, a lot of anger.
I scrambled up a tree and thought of ponies and rainbows. Yes, I know it’s embarrassing, but it’s the only way I can keep Jason from knowing what I’m thinking. I looked over to my left. At first nothing was there, but then Kristy appeared out of nowhere.
“So, that was Jason?” She asked me.
I stared at her blankly for a second, but then remembered her power.
“Yeah- used your power, didn’t you? Did he notice?” If Jason saw, I’d be twice, no three times as dead.
“I’ll take that as a yes. No, I don’t think he did- I was behind him when I used it.” Thank God!
“Good.” I said, looking at the ground for him. “He can’t know about your powers until and unless it’s absolutely necessary.”
She looked confused about that “I don’t like him very much.” She admitted. Sometime I didn’t either. But other times…”He really overreacted.”
I smirked in agreement. She could say that again- but we’ve got to get out of here! Jason will be almost here by now. I’m too young to go to hell! Not now, I just need a few more years!
“Okay, He really overreacted.” I didn’t have time for this now…. She didn’t need to try and be funny! “When we get out of here, were exactly are we going to go?”
“You’ll stay in the forest…” I jumped down from the tree. As I hit the ground, I knew what I had to do. Kristy was going to get hurt if I didn’t do this…. She’s going to hate me for this… I’m going to hate me for this.
“Oh, did I say ‘we’?” I said, uncaringly. I couldn’t let any true emotions show. “I meant ‘I’. He’s not after you. Soooooooooo, see ya.”
Then I ran. I ran so fast, my eyes started to water. No wait, that was me crying. I hated doing this to such a sweet little kid. She didn’t deserve this. But it’s the only thing I could do. She was fallowing me, so I ran even harder. I forced my eyes to glow red, and my claws helped me get better traction. I ran at least 100 mph, faster than I’ve ever run before.
In the distance she called my name. “Jamie? JAMIE!!!!” She sounded so sad, so desperate. Is this how Jason feels when he has to hurt me to keep me safe?
Yes.
Oh no. He can hear me. I looked through Jason’s eyes. He was running past Kristy now. So fast it was only a sharp wind to her. He’d get back to her later though, that’s good.
Yes, I’ll get back to her. After I kill you.
You don’t mean that. I didn’t sound sure, even to myself.
Watch me. Jason sounded sure.
I ran and ran. It seemed like hours, but I could be only minutes. Jason was too far away to catch me without me having undeniable proof of his powers. He was only at half his desired speed.
Finally I reached the eastern deserts. I thought I was alone. I fell into the sand and looked up at the sky. My eyes were still red, I knew that. I wasn’t going to be conscious much longer. I closed my eyes, but then I heard an unfamiliar voice.
Chapter 5
“Hello.” I opened my eyes and saw a masked dog. He was some sort of dark brown Chihuahua, clearly Mexican. A gun was now pointed to my head. He dragged me to my feet and tied my hands behind my back.
“If you hurt Jason… I’ll kill you.” I hissed at this horrible man that had been hurting my brother for so long. Every bullet, every drop of blood; it all re-played in my mind filling me with rage.
Don’t come here Jason! I thought, trying to protect him.
Don’t try to be the hero. He sounded really worried, It’s okay, I’ll save you.
Those words made me feel safe, even with a gun at my head. I heard Jason footsteps in the distance. He was at least 5 miles away. But then suddenly, he was here.
“You.” Jason growled at the Chihuahua.
“Don’t move or I’ll kill her.” The man said with a heavy Mexican accent.
“It’s not her you want, it’s me.” Jason held his arms out. “Shoot me.”
“No!” I shrieked. The gun stayed at my head.
“Alright.” The masked Chihuahua pulled out another gun and pointed it at Jason. I had watched Jason get hit with a bullet before, but that’s like watching something on TV. This seemed so much more real. Filling me with more rage than ever before.
My eyes glowed blood red as I ripped out of the bids that held my hand. I smashed the Chihuahua’s face with my fists, which seemed to be glowing red as well. He stumbled backwards and dropped both guns. Jason picked them and pointed them both at a now bloody masked face.
“Go ahead,” The man taunted, even with a bloody, broken face. “I know you can’t.”
He was right, Jason could never kill someone. Jason lowered the guns and gave one to me. He reached into his pocket and grabbed some handcuffs. But the Chihuahua was suddenly at Jason throat. And… Holy shit! He had a grenade!
“Walk away, little kitty.” The Chihuahua said as bloody dripped off his face and stained the sand. “And never tell anyone what you saw.”
“Oh I wont.” I said, “That I just kicked your sorry butt.”
BANG! I shot my gun right through the guy’s arm. The ‘bullet’ got stuck in his arm, just like I had planned.
“But you’re just a stupid kid!” The Chihuahua shouted as he fell into the reddish sand.
“Yeah, I am.” I glared down at him. “And that’s for every time you shot my brother.”
Jason just stared at me. I grinned excitedly, my first battle. And I know it wont be my last.
“How-how could you?” Jason sounded shocked, “You killed him! You can’t kill someone!”
“Jason, I’m not a murder.” I stated calmly. “I never have been, and I never will. While you were going to have a grenade stuffed down your throat, I switched the lead bullets for tranquilizer dart.” I dropped the bullets into the sand.
At first Jason looked shocked. The fact that I carry tranquilizer darts is a little weird. But then he looked so proud and happy. He picked me up and hugged me until I couldn’t breathe.
“That was amazing! Oh thank God you’re safe.” He put me down and looked a little annoyed. “You could’ve been killed! What the hell were you thinking?”
“Couldn’t you hear?” I asked sarcastically. Of course he knew what I had been thinking. “Let me replay it for you.” I thought back to about 10 minutes ago.
Run. Run. Run.
I thought of Jason’s furry with me for bringing home some random stranger.
How could she! @#$. That little !#%@.
“Oh, I said that.” He laughed nervously. “Don’t tell Shannon.”
I raised my paw in promise, “I would never.”
But what about the unconscious Chihuahua?
We both looked at him. The sand was a deep red now. Jason sighed, not liking to pick up half dead people.
“I’ll take him to a jail.” He looked at me, slightly worried, “You better head home.”
“How?” I asked. “I don’t have a car I can use!”
“Use mine.”
I staggered back in shocked. Did Jason really just tell me to use his car? His awesome car?
“Yes, yes I did.” Jason said, “And don’t make me regret it. If I see a single scratch on her…”
“Oh, Jason. You know I’m a better driver than you are.”
Jason just rolled his eye; then he disappeared. Running so fast, you could never even see him. I walked in the other direction, towards his car. There it was. Not the black, box-like van, but the convertible. I had wanted to drive this car ever since Jason taught me how to drive. It was his prized possession. The golden paint shimmered in the summer sun. I jumped over the door and sat in the front seat. The black leather of the steering wheel begged for me to speed off on the highway.
*Sigh* You’re such a dork.
I’m a dork! I thought back to Jason, who and been listening to me with the car, Think about how you look when you crash into the side of the house.
We thought about it for a minute and we both laughed. Jason was such a horrible driver.
I am not. I just have fun when I drive.
You mean you drive drunk? Jason, how could you! Sarcasm was very common between me and my brother.
Oh haha. You know me so well. Just don’t forget to use the stealth. I don’t want my car being taken away, and you in jail for underage driving.
I’ve been in jail for worse.
Yeah. He laughed.
So have you Mr. Drunk.
Get out of here Jamie.
And on that note, I turned on the gas to the car. I opened the hero control panel and pressed the big black button. Now, the whole world would see me as a 17-year-old blond chick in a hot red Ferrari. Well, the whole world except my family. Life is fun.
I drove for 20 minutes until I reached the house. I neatly parked the convertible in the garage, without a scratch on it. I threw the keys into the key dish (There were a ton of keys in there) and walked towards Jason’s room. I didn’t touch his computer or mess up his stuff; I just waited there, sitting on his bed. Waiting for him to come home.
After a few minutes he suddenly appeared, walking casually through the door. He stared at me, wondering what to do. He didn’t even try to hide his thoughts.
What am I gonna do with her… I could, swipe her memory. No wait, that wouldn’t work; she’s immune to that.. I could just beat her up until she promises to be quiet. I flinched, and Jason chuckled darkly a little. Or I could just turn her into a hero… Jason’s thoughts went to everything that could possible go wrong. Anything and everything that could possible hurt me.
“No.” He could never let anything hurt me.
“Jason, I just saved your life. I can and will do it again.”
“I know you can,” Jason admitted sitting next to me on the bed, “But that’s what I’m afraid of. What if you get hurt? Jamie, you can’t understand how much it would kill me if my little sister got hurt.”
“And you don’t know how much it kills me when you get shot in the arm once a week.” I retorted, “Plus, I’d never get hurt, I’m too much of a super hero.” Let the gloating begin.
“A hero?” Jason laughed at my idea, “More like a zero.”
“Excuse me? You would be lucky to be my sidekick.” I’ll be a great hero some day…
“Yeah, sure. Side. Kick.” Jason stood up and kicked me in the side; throwing me into his pillow.
“Cheater!” I jumped up and grabbed my pocketknife. I was about to slash off his face, when he grabbed the sides of the blade.
“Nice try, kiddo.”
But the score still needed to be even. I round-housed kicked him in the side of the head.
“Ow! What the hell, Jamie?”
“You kicked me!”
Suddenly, we were jumping, and dodging and trying to attack each other all over Jason’s room. He crashed into a trophy when I crashed into a painting. He spilt his coffee everywhere when I almost stepped on his phone.
Eventually, he had me pinned to the ground. Broken and fallen objects were all around us, but we kinda ignored them.
“Say it.” Jason said as I was trapped in defeat.
“Say what?”
“That I’m better than you at being an awesome super hero.”
“Okay. ‘I’m better than you at being an awesome super hero’”
“You’re so annoying you know that.” Jason said as he lightly punched my exposed underbelly. “Now say it the right way, or I’ll punch harder.”
“You don’t have the guts!” I retorted, knowing Jason could never hurt me.
“Do you?” He punched a bit hard.
“Alright, alright, I’ll say it!” I shouted trying to get him off. “You’re an awesome super big brother. Happy now?”
“Close enough.” Jason smiled as he helped me up.
Looking around the room, Jason groaned. The whole place is normally a mess, but Shannon had made Jason clean it just a few days ago.
“Nice move, Jason.” I laughed a little, “You’re going to have to clean everything up.”
“You both are.” Shannon walked in the room. “Jason, you can’t be such a bully all the time to Jamie. Yeah, she deserves it-“
“Hey!”
“Anyway, just practice your hero stuff down at the training center.”
“Shannon knows about hero stuff?” I asked Jason.
“Yeah, after we got back together last Christmas-“
“Thanks to me.” I said proudly, remembering how Jason had to dress up as Santa.
“Stop interrupting, and enough with the flashbacks!” Jason sounded a little annoyed, “Anyway, I promised not to keep anymore secrets from Shannon.”
They kissed, which was a little gross… “I could see it coming though.” Shannon admitted, “You’re family is so weird, you must have super powers. Now, use those powers for good and clean up. Both of you.”
We both groaned as Jason’s girlfriend walked out the door. I started to pick up some photos I had knocked over as Jason started cleaning up the coffee stain.
“Speaking of powers,” Jason sounded more serious now, “Who was that little brown friend of yours?”
“Kristy!” I shouted, remembering that I had left her alone in the woods.
“I’ll get her.” He sounded worried too. He must understand that she’s one the few good friends I have. “But you and I will talk later.”
Jason ran out the door and got into his black van. He whipped out of the driveway and drove off towards the woods. Poor Kristy. I had left her there for almost 24 hours. She’ll never forgive me! I sighed. Maybe I’m just not meant to have friends… I walked into the living room and waited on the couch for Jason and Kristy to come home.
Chapter 6
I finally heard the car in the garage and Jason walked in. Kristy fallowed meekly behind him. She was caked in mud had there were purple lines under her eyes from lack of sleep. She was so thin; I could count each of her small little ribs. Oh god. What have I done?
“Kristy might want to get some of that mud off, then you should get her something to eat.” Jason told me as he started walking towards his room. “When you’re done- I want you both in my room. We need to talk.”
“Okay.” I mumbled in agreement. I lead Kristy towards the bathroom, where she scrapped off most of the mud on her fur. We walking into the kitchen and I quickly made her a tuna sandwich.
I couldn’t even tell her how sorry I was. Words weren’t good enough. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this guilty in my life! Not even when I almost murdered Tyler. But I had to say something.
“I’m really sorry I left you alone in the forest, really I am.”
“It’s fine.” She said quietly. She smiled, but it only poorly hid her sorrow, “I forgive you.”
Forgiveness? When do I ever deserve to be forgiven! I-I should do something. I have to make this up to her, but how? I left a completely defenseless kit in the woods! And why? To save my own tail.
But another part of me, a more demon-ish part, laughed at my self-hatred. It’s not your fault this kit can’t handle being alone for 24 hours. No, it is my fault! I should have never taken her into the lab. I should have just left her on the steps of the Orphanage and forgot she existed until she was adopted. Then she’d be fine, with a loving family. Not cursed to be dragged into my world of trouble.
Kristy stopped eating her tuna sandwich. I can’t understand, tuna’s gross. But I think it’s something more that that. We started walking towards Jason’s room when I realized what he was going to make me do. He’s going to make me talk. Worry flooded into my emotions, mixing with guilt and sadness; I feel sick. Jason was waiting for us when we walked in.
“Sit. Now. Explain.” He demanded.
I didn’t move, and neither did Kristy, waiting to see what I would do. Or what? I challenged him. I probably shouldn’t have, but I hide my guilt and worry with my normal attitude.
Kristy stood, fidgeting slightly at my disregard to Jason’s orders. While Jason on the other hand, was mentally shouting at me. You’d better explain, or she’ll go back out there and I’ll have think up another sentence for you… I wonder… Cruel ideas raced through Jason’s head, but he’s first idea is what got to me. Kristy can never be in pain again for what I’ve done.
Kristy could hear Jason’s ideas, ‘cuz her mouth dropped open in shock. Those ideas weren’t really that bad. And the ones that were, Jason would never to do me. But Kristy was scared when Jason and I stared at her. She backed up to the wall and cowered in a ball of brown fur.
Jason glared back at me. Tell me what the hell she’s doing. NOW. I put up my only means of defense. Jason laughed and even Kristy snickered, but it was the only thing I could do to keep Jason from knowing. If he knew, Kristy would only suffer more. I guess this is what it’s like to have friends… Wow, friends suck.
I felt Jason drag me into his thoughts; a power I only have when I’m overdosed with drugs. Suddenly, I wasn’t in the room anymore. We were… somewhere white… but I couldn’t tell where. The air was cold, even though the sun was brighter than normal.
“You can’t run from this.” Jason said as he grabbed me. He held me over a cliff and I froze.
We were on a mountain. And I was hanging over a cliff…
OH MY GOD! HE’S GOING TO KILL ME!!!
I couldn’t move. I couldn’t scream. I couldn’t fight him. Heights are one of my worse fears, even from just 6 feet on a flag poll and I freak out. Jason knew this, and used this against me, better than anyone. Even though this is a mental trick, if I feel, I could really die.
“STOP!!!!!!!!” Screamed Kristy. She pushed Jason and I away from the cliff. How’ d she get in here? Jason was wondering the same thing.
We were back in Jason’s room; he was staring at Kristy, utterly bewildered. She looked like a hero, all brave and stuff. I wish I could do that…
Kristy released that the mountains was fake. The real danger was Jason. She inched closer to me, thinking I could protect her. I couldn’t do much, but I had one thing over Jason. Me.
Two can play at this game, Jason. I thought of the desert, before I had knocked out the Chihuahua. Don’t Jason sounded… scared? He had almost killed me but now he’s scared! I didn’t care. I thought what could have happened.
The bullet slowly was sent threw the air. Jason watched in horror, but I refused to let him move. The bullet slide into my arm as I braced myself for slight pain… But there was nothing. No pain, no blood.
Nice try, but you just don’t have that kind of power. Jason forced me back to his room. Crap. Now he’s mad. He pinned me up against the wall by my arms. My short legs were at least a foot off the floor.
“Enough games.” He growled, “Tell me what the hell she’s doing! RIGHT NOW!!!!”
I couldn’t fight him anymore. But I didn’t say anything. I just thought back to a few nights ago. The alley, in the lab, and in the forest.
Jason put me back on the floor. My arms were sore and his eyes looked hallow.
“Hey.” Kristy said, apparently seeing that I spilled the beans.
Jason looked at Kristy. Confusion and fear whipped through his head. Fear of what? He was faster, stronger and a lot better things than Kristy will ever be. He proved it too. He ran straight at her. I was used to his speed, but Kristy was scared. You could tell, ‘cuz she wasn’t there. She appeared next to my side as Jason skidded to a halt, just a few inches from the wall. He spun around at stared at Kristy. What the… He was clearly annoyed, but also slightly worried… hmmmm…
“Jason…” What do you know that I don’t? I asked him.
He didn’t really say anything, he just thought. Thought back to a painful memory I had seen many times before. The forest was tinted silver in the light of a full moon. Pine trees were accompanied by oaks in a forest in a more northern area of New York. A thin orange furred cat ran threw the woods at great speed. Mom. She was fallowing a silver tom.
That’s mom’s death, trying to save… who is that? I asked Jason without words. But he answered me out loud.
“That’s Uncle Rob. Our uncle,” He turned to Kristy, “but your dad.”
Jason finished the scene. The thing got Mom, ripping her to bits. It chased after Rob and finally killed him too. Blood and guts scattered everywhere, turning the green pines red.
“I’m sorry you had to see that, Kristy.” Jason said. Of course he didn’t car that I had to see mom’s death every time the thought about her. Or did he… “But now that you’re here, we have to keep our powers even more secret.”
Most people would be depressed by that news. But he had just said it. Admitted it out loud. Kristy stared at me like I was insane, but I didn’t care. I knew we had powers, but Jason just said it out loud!!! I couldn’t have been happier.
“Jamie.” Jason sounded annoyed. “This is why I didn’t want you to know! You’ll blab to the world and then we’ll all get killed!”
I wouldn’t tell! I’m not that dumb!
“That’s what you did with the Jonas Brothers.” Jason retorted. That was true.
“Yeah,” I said out loud, “but with them, I won’t die. I became somewhat popular… With this, I would never tell anyone!” Well, anyone but Amy. She has a right to know.
“Well, Amy should and already does know-“
“WHAT!!!!!!!!! You told her and didn’t tell me?!?!?!” HOW COULD HE!!!!
“She’s better at keeping a secret.” Jason replied calmly.
That’s-That’s so MEAN!!! How could he do that to me? I’ve got great powers! I should be allowed to know who I am!
“Jamie, the less you know, the better. I don’t want…” You getting hurt. Thinking it didn’t hide it, but I didn’t say anything. His eyes were full of sadness.
If he was worried, he didn’t need to be. I know he would never let anything bad happen to me. He’s, like, the best big brother anyone could have! And he knows that as well as I do.
Jason looked at me with that teasing smile I love so much. He must have heard what I thought.
“Yes! I am! Now, let’s get you two down into the lab and you can watch me yell at Amy for running Tyler’s DNA.”
Jason jumped up and picked me up by the scruff of my neck. I hate it when he does that.
“Jerk.” I mumbled in slight protest. But I was really just happy he wasn’t that mad at me. He laughed and I joined in a little.
“You coming, little Jonas?” Jason called back to Kristy. Wasn’t that my nickname a few months ago? But my jealousy was gone when I saw the smile on Kristy’s face.
“Okay!” She hopped up and fallowed us to the lab. You could tell she was the happiest kid alive.
Chapter 7
We walked up the yellow stairs on the left side of the house. The titanium door was waiting for us. Jason put me down and waited fro me to unlock it. How many codes and passwords can be on one door?
“Can we take the chute?” I asked Jason in an almost cute way.
“Sure.” Jason said with a smile. But what about her.
“Oh, she likes the stairs. Right, Kristy?” If she can’t handle going 65mph, then she probably can’t handle a straight 16-foot drop.
But Kristy looked like she was thinking about it. What was there to think about? She hates things in the modern world.
She has rights to; a car ran over her mom. Oh.
Kristy cringed; she must have been listening to Jason and me. But then she smirked. “Well, yeah I like the stairs. But, you know, if it’s okay with you…”
She was bolder than I thought. She smirked, but just because she’s not a total chicken doesn’t mean she’s that great.
“Fine. You can fallow us.” I wanted to ride with Jason… well, with him when he wasn’t trying to ground/kill/yell at me. But Jason glared at me. Apparently my thoughts were too mean.
“Be nice. How about the both of you take the elevator? Just so Kristy doesn’t freak.” Jamie, we’ll have plenty of time up and down that thing.
That was true, but still!
“Fine.” Kristy mumbled, like she was disappointed or something. She should be grateful I’m not making her take the stairs. I wanna spend time with MY big brother.
But Jason just laughed at Kristy’s respond, “You sound like Jamie- you two should be twins. God knows we need another Jamie around here.” I growled at Jason’s sarcasm, but he was still smiling.
“Oh, don’t be such a baby.” The last word caused a wave of fury to come over me, but I ignored it… for now. “Take her down the elevator.”
“Okay, okay! No need to use such harsh words.”
Jason laughed as he jumped into the hole what was the chute.
“Come on.” I said to Kristy, “The elevator is actually pretty cool. Amy built it and you can even see some fossils in the dirt ‘cuz the glass is clear and stuff. I found a diamond too! Some day I’ll dig it up and make a few extra bucks… well it’s nothing I couldn’t steal from the government…” I was rambling. “Anyway, let’s go.”
I walked in as the elevator doors slid open with a small ding. A yellow light turned on above it, showing us on floor +2. Kristy walked in and door the glass doors closed. We began sinking into the earth. Kristy was amazed by the layers of dirt and the different fossils. When we passed my diamond she was shocked. It’s really not that big; It’s only a few inches bigger than the Hope Diamond. I’ve seen ones that are the size on my head on secret government pages. When the elevator doors finally opened, Jason was waiting for us on the lab floor.
“What took you so long?” He was acting smug.
“The elevator.” I retorted. It really was a slow elevator. Amy didn’t have a lot of time to built its mechanics, so it’s not the best. And she’s so busy with research now, that she doesn’t have time to build a new one.
Amy was working around near the huge Gamma ray. She heard us talking and froze. She turned around and saw us.
“Uh, hi guys…” She quickly stuffed her research papers in a drawer and turned off her research computer.
“Don’t freak Amy.” Jason said. He ran over to her drawer and pulled out the papers. He was so fast Amy couldn’t even stop him.
“Hmmmm… More research on Tyler? Would it kill you to work on some weapons? The bad guys are getting even better stuff.”
Amy smiled, but she looked at me and tilted her head. Kinda signaling something to Jason.
“What?” I asked.
“Amy, it’s okay. She knows.”
“Really?” Amy said like it was something finally lifted off her shoulders. “Then you can giver her back the-“
“No. I’m not eve giving it back to you.” No more sonic technology until you can act maturely with it.
Jason was thinking of my awesome lighter knife. It had so many great features, ones that I had made the design plan for. What I wouldn’t give to have it back. Jason wouldn’t let me have it, and Amy would be out of the lab for a year if she made me a new one. And Jason only took it, ‘cuz we used the sonic technology on it to blow up Lexi’s car. She deserves it.
“But we are going somewhere fun…”
His thoughts were hidden from me. I couldn’t stand not knowing. “Where are we going!!!” I started bouncing up and down.
“I’m not telling you.” Jason said as he ran under the chute. “Meet you two in the car. Amy, grab Tyler, he’s coming too.”
Amy looked a little shocked at the thought of Tyler, but she turned off the Gama ray and walked towards the elevator.
“You two coming?” She asked, holding the elevator door open.
“Yeah we are! Come on Kristy.” I walked towards the elevator, but stopped when Kristy was fallowing me. It’s so not fair that she knows what I’m thinking, but I can’t know what she’s thinking.
“What?” I asked her, slightly annoyed she wasn’t listening to me. This was one of the few people I could have power over.
“See you at the top.” She said cheerfully. Then she sprinted up the metal chute and started climbing up.
WHAT THE HELL!!! She is not allowed to do that. Only Jason can, only Jason.
“Jamie…” Amy clearly saw I was getting angry. “Let’s just get in the elevator.”
“No, that’s not good enough! I’m climbing up this chute even if it kills me!” I ran for the metal chute and jumped in. My claws dug into the metal as I tried to climb up.
“But you’re afraid of heights!” Amy called after me. I heard some laughter down below me. Jason.
I was climbing just fine until that laugh. Then I looked down…
“It’s only 7 feet Jamie!” Jason taunted from in the lab.
I started breathing rapidly with fear. Oh god… I was so scared, I started shaking. What was I thinking? I dug my claws further into the metal to keep my grip. My paws were sweaty. What if I feel?
“Help.” I whimpered in a small voice. Jason was suddenly up in the chute and he grabbed my waist, bringing us up to the top floor.
“You really gotta think before you do something stupid.”
“I’m not stupid!” I shouted at him. A few people looked our way. “Kristy did it so I can too!” My fur was bristling with anger. No kit was going to outdo me.
Rage flicked over Kristy’s face, but was instantly replaced with sympathy. She walked over to me, looking so cute. She curled up in a little ball right at my feet. I wanted to growl. I wanted to rip her to shreds. But I couldn’t first of all, she was my friend. Second, she’s SOOOOOOOOOO dang cute!!
Jason snickered from hearing me surrender to cuteness.
You do to! I thought at him angrily.
Quiet you. Was all he could reply.
“Let’s just go.” I said angrily.
The elevator dinged and Amy walked out, without commenting on our little scene she must have heard. Jason ran off and backed the van into the driveway. He picked up Amy and Kristy and put them into the trunk.
“You’re not going to pick me up.” I said. I tried to jump into the car, my short legs trying to get a grip on the edge. But I couldn’t reach. But before Jason picked me up, Tyler walked out.
“Jasoooooooooooooooooon.” He said in his whinny little voice. “I peed.”
I looked at Tyler, then back at Jason. “There is no way he’s coming with us.”
“Yes he is.” Jason said. But that’s when he slipped. Images of training and rooms filled with weapons. Battle practice and secret meetings. HQ.
“No way.” I said staring him in the eye. “NO WAY!!!!!! I’m going to be a hero!!! AT HEAD QUARTERS!!!!!”
“Jamie, “ Jason groaned, “Please don’t do this. I need to get Shannon ‘cuz Tyler did his thing.” Jason rolled his eyes and picked Tyler up by the scruff of his neck. He walked into the house to find Shannon.
It only took a few minutes; Shannon’s had a lot of practice ‘changing’ Tyler. What a loser. When Jason came back out he put Tyler in the car. I was so happy about finally going to HQ, I didn’t even notice when he grabbed me and put me in the trunk.
“Hey!” Jason knew I can’t get in by myself, but I still wanted a chance! Well… It really doesn’t matter. We’re going to HQ!
Chapter 8
“Chill out Jamie, it’s not that big a deal.” Jason was lying. He knows it was a big deal. A quick flashback showed me he’s first trip to HQ and getting registered as a hero. Wow, look at how impressed the testing people look. Jason’s powers are pretty awesome.
Alright, I lied. This is huge for you!
He sounded… happy for me. Wow, this is so awesome. But the car was totally packed with four kittens in the trunk. Kristy was in her own little corner and Amy was sitting next to me. Tyler fell asleep. Jason kept trying to get me to calm down, but it wasn’t really working. But Jason wasn’t really trying hard; he was actually really happy for me.
When we reached the parking lot, Jason whipped into a spot next to a black Mercedes and a red pick up truck. There was a sign over the Mercedes’ spot said ‘Mr. S.’ The pick up truck was Ricky’s. In front of Jason’s spot, there was a sign in really cool looking letters saying

“Alright, everybody out.” Jason said as he popped the trunk open. My big brother is the awesomest. We all piled and looked at the building called Head Quarters.
It was a large, two-story building in red brick. It looked so small for a head quarters, but Jason knew there was many levels underground. So much to do, some much to learn, so much too… Oh! A revolving door! These things are great! The SHL logo was above all the doors, but mere humans and normal people wouldn’t understand its awesomeness.
As everyone else walked through the doors, I kinda got distracted with the revolving door. It’s so much fun; going around and around and around…
“Jamie, let’s go!” Jason called me, obviously trying not to laugh.
I freed myself from the door and stumbled around, dizzy. If we weren’t at HQ, I could see that Jason would have laughed so loud at my easy amusement. Like he didn’t love those doors. That’s not what we’re here for. We’re here to get a hero wanna-be registered.
I’m not a wanna-be!
But I couldn’t stay mad when my happiness came rushing back. I started jumping up and down with excitement. Maybe, when I’m a hero, I can do something right for once in my life.
“Aren’t you excited?” I asked Amy. How could she seem so calm? I was still bouncing up and down with excitement; which I admit is a little stupid, but I just couldn’t contain my happiness. “We’re getting registered for this super hero… club thing…” Crap, what was it called? I never had the right words.
“First of all,” Amy said, still as cool as a cucumber. Where is that expression from, anyway? I heard Jason laugh at my questioning of analogies.
“It’s called the Secret Hero’s league. And second of all, I’m not getting registered today.”
“What?” I asked in shock. How can she NOT want to get registered? We’re going to be HEROES!!!
“I’m already a member Jamie.” She acted like she could read my mind. For the record, she can’t. “I have been for… almost a year. I think they’re throwing me a party next week. For not getting killed or kidnapped or something….”
“What.” I stared at her, my eyes wide with shock and… and well, fury. A year? A WHOLE STUPID YEAR!!!!!!!!!!
“Good Morning Jason,” The lady behind the round table at the front desk. She smiled. “You’re registering these three? Oh, hello Amy.” Amy nodded her head in a hello. But this only fueled my rage. She’s been here enough behind my back for even the front desk lady to know! That little traitor!
“Hey ummm… Lindy,” Jason said hurriedly, sensing my anger. “I’ll be right back. I’m about to have a screaming kid to take care of. Amy, watch Tyler and Kristy.”
Jason picked me up and carried me under his arm like a football. I didn’t try to stop him; I was too stunned with shock and rage to move. How could she not tell me! I’m her best friend, I’m her sister. I fond her with government money!
Jason and I were over in the parking lot when he put me down. There was nothing in the parking lot but about ten cars…
I screamed. I screamed as loud as someone my size could ever scream. I screamed so loud I set a car alarm off. And my screaming only got louder as I thought of every time Amy had left school early or told me to get to bed. She must have been going here, without ever telling me. FOR A YEAR!
“Jamie!” Jason shouted over my screaming. He covered my mouth with his paw. “Jamie, calm down. You’re acting like a two-year-old.”
If that was supposed to stop me from acting the way I was, it was only making things worse. I glared at him with eyes that were reddened around the edges. So Amy was in this little hero’s club first too, huh? I mentally yelled at Jason THIS ISN’T FAIR!!!
“I know it’s not fair.” Jason said, which surprised me enough to have my eyes back completely to green. “Which is why I was going to give you this later, but…”
He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out something handheld and black. It had silver letters in the side and looked like… it couldn’t be…
“It is.” Jason said smiling as he placed it in my hands. “It’s not the original one, let me tell you that. I’m not giving you sonic technology for a while. But I had Rick look over I and he made a replica, only in steel. You like it?
Like it? “I love it!” I said as I hugged Jason.
“But don’t kill anyone with it, okay? Save that for me.” He acted all tough and stood in a super hero pose, with his hands on his hips. I guess he was trying to be funny….
“Wow Jason.” I said as I slipped the knife into my bottomless pocket. Another one of Amy’s inventions… “We both know that both of us would never kill anyone.”
“True… Let’s get back inside.” We walked back through the parking lot. When a nice looking Jeep crossed out path…
“No.” Jason said, stopping all my thoughts of stealing it. Fun killer. “I am not a fun killer. If you’re going to steal a car, go for that Honda over there.” He pointed out a red Ridgeline near the road. We smiled but you’d never really let me steal a car, would you?
Not a chance.
Dang.
But Jason’s memories of when he stole cars filled me head, and I could help but laugh out loud. He pushed me and I stumbled to the left a few steps. I pushed him back, but he didn’t move. We laughed together and were smiling when we walking back through the door. Not the revolving door this time
“Jason,” Lindy said behind the front desk, “When you’re ready, you can bring those three back for registration. We’re running a little short of space today, so if it is of no inconvenience to you, it would be more convenient for us if they were all tested and registered in the same room.”
“That’s fine, thanks.” Jason said then he turned back to us. “Come on, what are you waiting for? Lets get you three registered!” I ran after him down a hallway; excitement and energy filled me with joy.
Chapter 9
We walked into the testing room and sat down on a few chairs. I could here a loudspeaker echo throughout the building.
“Mr. S,” It said, “Your presence is needed in testing room 1.4.”
After a few minutes of waiting, the door opened. A tall, black lab with some aged white fur around his muzzle walked up to Jason.
“Ah! Jason, good to see you back in this room.” The man chuckled a little.
“Oh, Mr. Secro, it’s nice to see you again.” Jason said, shaking Mr. Secro’s hand. “What embarrassing story of my earlier days here are you thinking of now?”
I couldn’t help but laugh at some of the memories from Jason’s ‘earlier days’ that flashed thought my mind. Accidentally blowing up chemicals, punching a hole in the wall, running at 300 mph into solid steel. Just to name a few.
Jason shot me an annoyed glace. Just wait until you do one of your stupid acts here. They’ll never forget, trust me.
Mr. Secro looked at me. “Is this the one you were telling me about?” He asked Jason.
“If you mean, ‘Is this the trouble maker’ then that would be me. I’m Jamie. Nice to meet you Mr. Sea… Crow? Right?”
“Yes, I’m Mr. Secro, owner and leader of the Secret Hero’s League. It’s nice to finally meet you. Jason’s told me many things about you.”
“Oh great.” I’m going to kill you. I thought to Jason. He just laughed.
“And Amy’s here. That’s good. Actually, Rick needs you down in lab 15.6; some incident with talking rats. I know you’re talented in that area, could you help him out?”
Amy nodded. “Of course Mr. S. I’ll see you guys later. Good luck with testing.” She walked over to me and whispered, “And don’t piss of the instructors, they’ll never forgot if you do.”
“So I’ve been told.” She walked out the door and Mr. S looked over to Tyler and Kristy.
“Tyler should be an interesting case…” Clearly he knew about the mirror secret. “But who is this? Jason, you never said anything about another kitten.”
Kristy looked a little scared. She curled up into a ball, and before Jason could speak, I went over to her and covered for him.
“I just meet her a few days ago. She’s our mother’s brother’s daughter.” I elbowed Kristy in the ribs. My way of saying ‘Get up’.
“Oh, Rob’s girl.” Mr. S looked like he was thinking about my uncle. I wonder if he knew him when he was alive. “I’m so sorry about your loss. But, we need to get onto the testing. I’ll be monitoring everything, but you will each have a separate instructor. I’ll need you to fill out these first.”
Mr. Secro snapped his fingers and a lead binder floated over to him. I watched with a smile on my face at his powers, but Kristy looked a little scared. He pulled out a handful of papers and gave them to Jason.
“Oh joy, paper work.” Jason mumbled.
“Don’t whine Jason,” Mr. S said in a mocking way. This was going to be fun. “Just do as your told.”
“Right,” Jason said, rolling his eyes. “Sorry Mr. S. “
Mr. Secro walked out of the room and Jason took a sigh of relief. There are only two people in this world that have power over me. Lexi and Mr. S.
I laughed once at Jason’s self-defeat. I was starting to like this Mr. S guy. I just hoped he didn’t end the same way Lexi did. I shuddered and Jason laughed at my memory. But then he shuddered to. That lady was messed up!
“Anyway,” Jason said. “Kristy come with me, we need to fill out these papers. Tyler, your next.”
“What about me?” I asked Jason. He smiled at me.
“I’ll get to you later. Mr. S has some special papers for you.” He looked at me with that smile he used when he was about to punish me. Maybe Mr. S isn’t all that good.
Kristy’s forms seemed to take forever, but the fact that I’m extremely excited to be registered doesn’t help. Jason’s mind was filled with impatience as it took so long for Kristy to remember things. But they did get the paperwork filled in about five minutes. Tyler’s papers were a lot faster because Jason had to fill everything out for him. And then it was my turn.
“Alright Jamie, you little fur ball-.”
“Hey!” I protested. Tyler sat back down next to Kristy and I walked over to Jason.
“Let’s sit down,” He continued, un-annoyed by my annoyance to his mockery. “This is a lot of paper work.”
We both sat cross-legged on the floor. I saw Kristy smile, but I didn’t really care. So what if everyone in this build will learn to hate me? I can finally have something good to use my powers for. Something good… Jason handed me the clipboard.
I’m sure you can fill out the first page by yourself.
The first page was just basic info. I bet Tyler couldn’t I thought, smiling as I wrote my name in the name blank.
“Oh, they want middle name too, Jamie.” Jason said, smirking.
I suppressed a growl so I could use a pretty good comeback. “So when you did this, you put down Jason Alexander Jonas?” I laughed at Jason’s middle name. It’s almost as embarrassing as mine.
“Oh please.” Jason retorted, “Jamie Nicole Jonas is much worse.”
I growled. Both of our middle names were really sissy. I mean, really. Alexander? Nicole?
I filled out the rest of the information. Full name, age, address, phone numbers, email addresses, weight, height-
“Jamie, you’re not 1 foot. You’re 11 inches and a half.” I rolled my eyes. Whatever.
Jason took the clipboard back for the second page. It looked like mostly stuff about my powers.
“Yep.” Said Jason, reading my thoughts. “Now, what’s level our your powers… My super speed level is… I guess at 675 million miles per hour. My super strength is like… I don’t know, 400 tons or something. Unlike your red eye.” Jason grinned mockingly.
“Oh please. I’ve been able to cut through bone, smash brick walls and left a 30 ton motor.”
“Of course you faint after most things.”
“My powers are amazingly awesome! No matter what the side effects!”
I know. I’m just messing with you kiddo. He handed the clipboard back to me. Now hurry up with that signature. And I’m gonna need some of your fur…
Before I could protested to the fur thing, Jason pulled out some of my fur with his super speed.
“Ow!” I said, rubbing the area on my arm which the DNA was coming from. “You could have used a scissor.”
“Didn’t feel like it.” Jason said, grinning. “Now sign that line right there.”

Nice signature. Jason thought sarcastically.
Like yours is any better. You a rock star, so your signature is going to be unreadable.
While this may be true. Jason admitted, It doesn’t matter. I need the clipboard back for this next part.
“What is it?” I asked out loud.
“Nothing, just some… history.” He got really quiet for a second.
I looked through his eyes to see that the first question on the page was about our mom and dad. I had never known them, but Jason was only five when they were murdered. And he was right there, watching them die and there was nothing he could do about it. Not only did he suffer from the memory, I did too.
“Stop it, Jamie.” Jason said grimly.
Moving onto a happy topic, the next part was stuff about my guardian, which is Jason. Mr. S must know about Jason’s love for alcohol ‘cuz it had questions that almost made me laugh. Like “How often in a mouth do you drink?” Jason wrote “About a bottle or two every night and about 20 on Fridays.” I love Jason. He’s hilarious.
“Glad I can amuse you kiddo.” Jason said, as he handed the clipboard back to me. “Mr. S wants every major battle you’ve had while using your powers. Including ones with me.”
“He expects me to remember all of them?”
“Yeah, you’ll learn to hate him. Just wait ‘til you get into Hero History 101. He’s a horrible teacher.”
Of course, Jason being Mr. Luck, Mr. S walked in. “I heard that Jason. You want another detention this week?”
Jason sighed with annoyance. Really? He has to do this in front of Jamie? “No, sir.”
Mr. S smiled. I’m sure he’s a good guy, but me and Jason have a bad habit of getting authority to hate us. Teachers, parents, random strangers, the cops… The list goes on.
Mr. S? A good guy? Yeah sure. Just write the stupid thing. It doesn’t have to be really detailed, just an average on when and how you use your powers. I would leave out you sending Shawn to the emergency room six times.
But that’s what I’m famous for! I smiled. I’m totally putting that down. Jason rolled his eyes.
Mr. S walked back in after a few more minutes of me writing my fight history. That took a while… Jason handed him the papers and Mr. S put them in that floating metal folder.
“Thank you, Jason. All right you three, now that we have your paperwork, we need to actually test your powers. Focus on your instructors, no each other. Oh, and Jason, you’re retesting today as well.”
“Wha-What? Why today? I did this like, twelve years ago!” Jason was surprised or horrified… Or both. I remembered the flash back of him crashing into a wall at three hundred miles an hour. He didn’t want that to happen again, especially in front of me and Kristy.
“That’s exactly why,” Mr. S retorted, “Powers can fade over time.”
Jason seemed to remember something that might make this fun. “So, you’re gonna drop a car on me again?”
“Yes.” Mr. S replied, slightly annoyed.
“Sweet!” Jason said with that stupid guy grin covering his face. As much as I hate to admit it; I love that smile.
Mr. S walked out of the room and four new instructors walked in. Jason looked at three of them, remember times when they had been some of his hero class teachers. I tried not to laugh when he remembered each of them saying ‘detention’ to him on an average day.
Kinda like a flash forward, huh Jamie? Jason mocked mentally, You’re gonna get in so much more trouble here than I did.
Sure, sure. I replied. When I cause trouble, I do it the right way and don’t get caught… mostly.
The instructor Jason didn’t remember from his ‘earlier days’ stepped forward. She had curly blond hair and was way too preppy. Jason thought she must be a new girl or something.
“All right,” The new girl said. I’m guessing she was 23 or 24. “Let’s get to work.”
Chapter 10
Everyone was assigned an instructor. Tyler got a short guy with curly brown hair. Like a poodle of some sort. Jason got this girl with dark auburn hair. She was wearing a white mini skirt, so he was happy. Kristy was lucky enough to get Ricky. I was stuck with the preppy blond.
Everyone walked into separate little corners of the room. Kristy was stopping time or something and Tyler was supposed to be looking into Kyle’s eyes to copy his powers. Kyle can turn invisible. Of course, Tyler was distracted by a dust bunny in the corner. Jason’s girl was leading him into a track room to test his super speed. My instructor walked over to the clear glass wall near the track room. She got down on her knees to be at eye level with me. This should be interesting.
“Okay sweetie.” She said in a sweet, bubbly voice. Yuck. “I’m Diana. You’re Jamie Jonas correct?”
“I think I now my own name, Diana.” I said, “Now what do you want me to do?”
“What can you do?” She said. The tone of her voice showed she didn’t think I could do anything. Wait ‘til I prove her wrong.
I grinned wickedly at the thought of showing off my powers.
Jason, is there any brick walls we could get in here?
One second Jamie. He stopped running around a track and collapsed at his instructor’s feet. Well hello there Rachel. He said, clearly being able to see up her skirt. What a guy. Rachel kicked him and he jumped back up.
You get tired after a run?
Only at too fast or too long. But whatever. About that wall think… There’ll be a red button on a control panel on the wall in front of you.
This one? I said as I walked over to it and held my paw over a big red button.
Yep. Have fun kiddo, they’re gonna test my hearing for a second.
“Jamie!” My instructor said, clearly annoyed at me. “What are you doing? You’re not allowed to press those buttons.”
“I do a lot of things I’m not allowed to do.” I said as I grinned. I pushed the button and a brick wall rose up from under the floor.
“What’s the wall for?” Diana asked, somewhat interested.
“Grab your clip board and take some notes.” I said as walked to the wall.
I closed my eyes and focused on the thought of anger. I didn’t even need to think of something to make me anger, I just thought of fury. When I opened my eyes again, they were a neon shade of red. Diana had followed me towards the wall, but took a step back when she saw my eyes.
I could have just kicked in the wall. I could have kept it simple and just spun around in the air then kick the wall. I could have just punched it. But no, I decided to show off.
I spun around on my heels to face the metal wall with the control panel. I ran up the wall and pushed off into the air. I flipped a few times in the air and then kicked in the wall. The whole thing shattered into thousands of brick pieces.
“Wow.” Diana said as I landed neatly on my feet. She wrote down some notes. “Can you do anything else?”
“Hell yeah I can.” I said grinning. My eyes faded back to green. “But I think I might have over done it…”
I was about to fall over when Jason ran back into the room to catch me. I blacked out, but I could still watch and listen through Jason’s eyes.
“Sorry about that Rachel! It’s kinda my job to make sure she’s okay.” He smiled down at me as he put me on the floor. Damn it, now I look all- all cute. I would have growled if I wasn’t unconscious.
“Is she okay?” Diana asked.
“Yeah, that just happens when she over uses her red eye.” He saw that I was starting to be able to twitch my tail. He kicked me in the gut. “Someone needs to be a bit more careful when she’s SHOWING OFF.”
“Like you don’t show off.” I said, sitting up. My head was throbbing a bit, but I’ll be okay… “You were just like ‘Look at me! I can hold up a car!’”
“Well I can.” Jason said, smiling. He helped me to my feet.
I looked over and saw Kristy panting and shaking as she sat down. I laughed; I guess I’m not the only one who overuses her powers.
“Hey, Kristy, run out of energy?”
Oh sure, it’s funny when Kristy over uses her time thing, but when you faint from showing off, it’s not funny at all. Hypocrite.
Meh.
“Hey Jason, can you help with one of Kristy’s tests? I want to see how far she can read minds…” Rick called Jason over.
“Sure, I’ll help. I’m guessing I’ll need to go farther until she can’t hear my thoughts.” Jason said. Rachel was trying to surprise him with a flying punching bag, but Jason gave it a kick and it flew across the room into the wall.
“Damn.” Rachel said, clearly annoyed that she couldn’t get her revenge.
Good luck kiddo. Jason thought to me as we went over to Kristy and Rick.
“Okay Jamie. How about metal walls?” Diana said. She walked over to the control panel and pushed the red button twice.
“Why not?” I said. I guess I shouldn’t show off this time. I walked up to the wall and quickly went red eye. The wall spilt in two as it met my fist.
“Good. We’re going to test your speed next.”
I stopped listening to Diana when I heard Jason’s thoughts. Watch, time, powers, speed, strength, dirt, cactus, Arizona- oh holy crap, I’m in Arizona! Okay, Rick, that’s it. Coming back now. I’ll give you the coordinates later.
“Jamie?” Diana asked, seeing that I had spaced out.
I shook my head to clear it. “Sorry. Jason was in Arizona… We have a metal connection.”
Diana looked impressed. “We should test that later. But now, we need to do the speed test.”
She pressed a few buttons on the control panel and a treadmill appeared out of the floor. I looked over and saw Kristy about to start her speed test. Jason was watching and I felt a flicker of jealousy. He should be watching me! I don’t know why, but I always get really jealous when he’s paying more attention to someone younger than me. But the jealously faded when I saw of flashback of Jason doing a treadmill test for the first time. He broke the treadmill.
I stepped onto my treadmill and Diana said, “Go.”
The speed started out slow; at like two or three mph. Diana took a remote control from the treadmill and pressed a few buttons. The speed got a bit faster, but it was nothing I couldn’t handle. I looked over to Kristy. She was on about ten miles per hour when she flew backwards into the wall. I laughed and lost my footing for a second. I almost fell off, but I regained focus. The speed was getting fast, about 20 miles per hour now. I had to get into red eye. When I did, I felt really dizzy, but I kept going.
We hit 30, then 40. I was starting to flicker in and out of red eye, which is really bad. But I kept fighting. We hit fifty and I also collapsed. I looked over to Jason and saw Rachel drop an old BMW on him. He picked it up with one hand.
“Is that all ya got?” He had that dumb guy smile. That clearly annoyed Rachel.
“How about a plane?” She clicked a few buttons on the wall, and a plane fell on top of Jason.
He dropped onto one knee, slightly caught off guard. “You could have given me a-“ He stood up onto his feet, “- little more warning.”
Rachel rolled her eyes and wrote down the plane thing. Jason didn’t really know what to do with the plane, so he threw it towards the south wall. The plane flew through the wall.
Rachel starred at the gaping hole that was the southern wall, shocked. She turned back to Jason. “You do know you’ll have to pay for that.”
“I figured.” Jason shrugged, knowing money wasn’t really a big deal anymore.
I looked back to my treadmill; my speed was at 82 mph. In the reflection of the metal, my eyes were a bloody shade of red. The actually red of my eye was covering most of the white.
“Oh snap.” I said. The red eye instantly shut off, from sheer overuse. I flew backwards, and crashed into Diana. Diana and I were thrown into the wall.
Diana groaned and I got off her. “Sorry…” I mumbled. I wasn’t fainting… which was weird.
Diana stood up and brushed off her fur. “It’s fine. Why don’t you try breaking a few more walls until you faint. Because it’s weird that you haven’t fainted.”
“Yeah.” I said, as I got to my feet. My legs were weak but I was able to get ready to break some more metal. I looked over to see Jason breaking some metal walls to. He looked at me, seeing I was spent.
Hey, if you’re tired we can-
What are you, crazy? I’m having a blast! I saw the wall ahead of me and felt a rush of adrenaline. My eyes glowed red again and I kicked in the wall. It crumbled as the next wall appeared. Then I punched that one. Another one appeared and I butted it with my head. The wall broke but I fell backwards.
“Nice job, Jamie.” Diana said as Joe walked into the room. “We’ll continue your testing in later training sessions. Joe’s gonna need you for some medical tests.”
I nodded to Diana and ran up to Joe. Tyler followed, which was a bit annoying but that’s okay. I haven’t seen Joe in forever, but I guess that’s because we haven’t been in any major fights. And by we, I mean Jason and me.

Ooh, good story. I like the whole multiple points of view thing… you want to introduce Lina, hmm? You don’t have to, it’s just a friendly suggestion.
Anyways, she could be a white kitten with black paws and big blue eyes instead of a fish, if that’s better. (Powers the same.) Anyway… yeah. I liked it!
